Het gaat hier om twee categorieën onderwijsmodellen. Enerzijds schoolmodellen zoals 'beth ha-sefer ', 'beth ha-knesset', 'beth ha-talmud', 'heder','talmud torah', 'yeshivah' e. d. en anderzijds leerhuismodellen zoals 'synagoge', 'beth ha-midrash', 'kallah', 'hevrot', 'kolleel', 'beth ulphana' e. d.

De ondertitel van Goldman (1975) geeft dit aan. Titel: Lifelong Learning Among Jews. Ondertitel: Adult Education in Judaism from Biblical Times to the Twentieth Century.
